Oh for fuck's sake, what a load of bollocks!

Protroversy is really about not worrying so much about the means or the end as having meaningful endings — delicious results which are fun, lively, and healthy.

That sort of vapid "don't harsh my mellow" commodi-zen babble is exactly why -- despite the beautiful geography, perfect climate, wonderful food, and other attractions -- I was relieved to move away from the Bay Area.

Every now and then, I will have occasion to don a kilt for a social event in Steelhead or Caledon. So I was intrigued by this story about Scotland's only Scottish-born rabbi, who has designed a new tartan for Scotland's Jewish community. While searching for a picture, so that I could attempt to design my own kilt, I came across an interesting discussion in which I learned that the Gordon tartan has long been favored by Scottish Jews. The reason for that association seems unclear, but there is some speculation that Clan Gordon had Jewish roots, and there is a record of one clan member, Lord George Gordon (of Gordon Riots infamy), adopting Judaism in the 1700s.

So, it looks like I'll be sporting Dress Gordon at any future tartan-themed SLevents.

Union Island is celebrating May Day (and the sim's official opening) with a full schedule of events. I will be speaking, as a representative of SL Left Unity, on the history of May Day and its continuing relevance to the struggle for workers' rights and social justice.
