The constant change that goes on in the Second Life environment can be disconcerting. Most of us in real life want some stability, but in SL, that is much harder. I have a folder full of landmarks and many of these either don't work or take me to ...

In my experience that the problem with Second Life blogs in particular is that there is only so much you can say about the subject, and before too long you find you are repeating yourself. Posts about the virtual world itself can mostly be reduce...

I love that phrase, Argus - "My blogs are all mirrors." The myths and metaphors that surround "mirrors" infuses that simple statement with interest. I may steal it ;) And maybe Tateru's comment about the difficulty in describing a blog is also ind...

I was catching up on your blog the other day and shared your crazy plot to increase the usage of the word, Slebrity on Plurk. I got a private message from Valiant which indicated that he has submitted the term 'Slebrity' to the urban dictionary (but it is not yet visible). I think I inadvertently contributed to your PR efforts :P

LOL ... I read your blog, oh! wait, I don't really count since I only read it once in a blue moon... kk

Now, about the blue hair, do you mean to tell me that you have other friends in-world who have blue hair? if so, I need to meet them, and get acquainted with my kind XD

Blog or Ad?

Following on from my previous post about the moribundity of blogs, I have noticed that the majority of posts in the Second Life Bloggers' network are, in fact, promotions for product. This isn't a criticism but an observation. To a certain extent, ALL blogs are a sales pitch of some sort, even if the pitch is simply "Look At Me!" rather than "Buy discount Viagra from my store" and such like.

What I am curious about is where the line is between a "blog" as a source of news, commentary, or person… Continue

The Irony and Moribundity of the Second Life Blogger

One of my favorite words - and I have many - is moribund. The online version of the Merriam-Webster offers two variations in meaning:

1 : being in the state of dying : approaching death
2 : being in a state of inactivity or obsolescence

Using the word to describe the inactivity of a blog seems deliciously appropriate. One blogger even suggested the word "mog" as a shorthand way of referring to such neglected aspiratio… Continue

Metablog Post: Second Life and Virtual Worlds - Friday 20th February

TGIF! Somewhere there is a Happy Hour and in a few minutes I'm going to find it. But before I do, here's the list of postings in Leominster Land for the past two weeks. And since I last posted, the Second Life Herald has undergone a name change to become the Alphaville Herald. In fact, that's its original name from when it began in The Sims Online. Fortunately for me I usual… Continue

Metablog Post: Second Life and Virtual Worlds - Wednesday 4th February

The Florida conference is over and I'm back in the sub-zero (celsius scale, at least) temperatures of North East Ohio. Oh happy day. Having worked over the weekend, my Second Life time has been drastically curtailed this week - which means I was in world for a while on Friday night but that's about it.

Lots of blogging though but no SL press pieces. Ouch! I tried to sell a piece to Runway magazine but no-one returned my call (sob!) nor did Ofelia Laval at Role magazine. Hmm… Continue

Metablog Post: Second Life and Virtual Worlds - Wednesday 28th January

Hello my little squibbers, I'm out on the road in real life, working from a conference in Orlando, Florida. It's real nice to be in 70+ degree temperatures while the snow and ice hammer down on my home in Ohio. Being on the road also slows down my writing as I typically have lots of business dinners to go to and end up stumbling into my hotel room not in exactly the best state of mind to write complicates stuff.

So here's the update for the past week.… Continue
