Hair Fair Outrageous Styles 2

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be featuring some of the more extreme or just plain interesting styles I found while traveling this year’s Hair Fair.  The ordinary stuff has its place, but sometimes you just gotta wig out, ya know?  I hope you’ll enjoy these; let me have your comments! ===== Before I launch into pictures, [...]

Torley Does Tutorial on Some Interesting 1.23 Changes (Updated)

I just spotted a new tutorial by everyone’s favorite watermelon-fascinated avatar, Torley Linden.  He focuses his camera on…well, on the camera.  Or, more specifically, the camera controls, especially if you do machinima.  From his brief writeup: Before Second Life Viewer 1.23, in Preference’s Input & Camera tab, there used to be Camera Transition Time and Camera [...]

===== I suppose the case could [...]

SL Hair Fair Off To a Hairy Start

The opening guns have fired, and the hordes of coiffuristas have been let loose.  Hair Fair is now on! Well, actually, it’s been on since Saturday; I’ve been busy trying to work my way through the lag.  I had to smuggle this report out via secret courier, who made a deal with the minions at the [...]

The Highest Boot Uppers in Second Life?

When I was going around the military regions the other day, I thought I’d give the boys in world some inspiration; let ‘em know what they’re fightin’ for, you know.  And it gave me a chance to show off one of my latest finds: The folks at B&G Shoes make no claim; but it’s my opinion [...]

SL Tribute To the Tuskegee Airmen

I still consider myself a Michigan girl; but that doesn’t mean I don’t respect and have an interest in the history of the state I currently live in. While exploring MyBase, one of the sims operated by the U. S. Air Force in what is essentially a military sector within the Grid, I came across this [...]

How High Can You Fly in SL?

The answer to that is easy:  200 meters (if flight isn’t locally deactivated), unless you have a flight assist of some kind, such as a Flight Feather or jetpack script.  With one of those, the ceiling is unlimited. Ah, but what effects do high altitude have on that luscious virtual body of yours?  Well, that’s changed [...]

Rev. Mark Brown Steps Down from Anglicans of Second Life

The Reverend Mark Brown stepped down this weekend from his leadership in the Anglicans in Second Life group, the Residents responsible for the Anglican Cathedral in Second Life on Epiphany Island.  Father Mark, ordained a priest in the Anglican Church in New Zealand, was the head of the leadership team within the group, and also [...]

Gidge Uriza is Undead!

Gidge Uriza of It’s Only Fashion has a definite style to her writing, and a playful inventiveness at times.  For instance, she recently has become one of the Walking Dead.  No, she wasn’t nailed by someone for Bloodlines; rather, she got ahold of some fangs, as well as a set of holes in her neck. But [...]

2009 SL BBBC #2

Continuing on with Alicia Chenaux’s Big Bad Blogger Challenge (using her question again), day no. 2’s suggestion is: Describe what your perfect Second Life day would be like. I think that would be a day with no crashes or slowdowns due to lag, where I could find a new sim and build that I could explore and [...]

Whether shooting for elegance....

...or outrageousness, Second Life is the place for an avatar to kick up his or her heels. It has faults, but it has many excellences as well. I hope my blog writing, at Around the Grid with Harper, can show all of the aspects of the Grid, and why so many of us in Second Life enjoy it so much.

What's Alphainventions.com?

Does anybody know anything about alphainventions.com? It's suddenly driving a lot of traffic to my blog, and when I linked to it, the traffic took off to nearly 700 in one day...just at this 10:00 a.m. writing. (Stats don't close on a wordpress.com blog until 7:00 p.m. Central.)

Is this thing legit?

Peace, Harper

Frequently Gone, But Not Forgotten

Much as it seems I'm never here (to the ones who remember me from the early days of this Ning group), I haven't disappeared entirely from Second Life Bloggers. I should get in more, for which I have no excuse other than working in world quite a bit.

I haven't forgotten the group, though, and I shall continue to poke my head in occasionally. If you're curious about me, check my main blog, or look at my Twitter feed on my page here.

Now on Twitter

I'm finally giving in. I've hauled myself (virtually, of course) over to Twitter and signed up for an account there. Since I don't write an article for this ravenous creature called a blog every day, but I'm in world almost every day, I figured it would be a good way to let my dedicated readers know that I'm actually doing something between longer writing sessions. Especially on weekends, when I can't always get to the keyboard for extended pe… Continue

Helping Out Sinnocent Mirabeau

If anyone out here likes outrageous hair, and helping a fellow avatar at the same time, read this article on my main blog. In very brief summary, Sinnoncent Mirabeau of Sinsation Hair is needing to raise a whack of RL money to get a tumor removed from her dog's ear. She's running a BOFO sale at her store: buy one, free one (equal / lesser value).

There's a SLurl at the bottom of my article. Plea… Continue

Explorations in Art

I've been doing some exploration again, and my two discoveries are distinctly art related, and liable to give (ahem) susceptible types -- especially from the Sixties -- a severe case of flashback:

First, a forest of alien plants and rocks in Moldof sector.

Second, Zero Point, a big light-sculpture complex i… Continue
