Blogger Party - October 5, 2008
When: 3pm SLT until we are done…

from Veyron Supercharge's blog....

"...The last blogger avie auction was a lot of fun. Some avies even enjoyed themselves inspite of everything…. I had a blast and I think everyone else who attended did as well. In fact I have had a bunch of requests to do it again. I would also think that most of you should have used up your old 24 hours by now and it’s time for a new - ahem - switch? So with that being said….

Tired of the same old usual party? People showing in some unsual costume or outfit, everyone commenting on how lovely they look. How about something different? :D

Theme: Mistress/Master Ball - submissive’s can come too… :D If you’re not “into” D/s the come in your favorite kinky wear for fun.

Rules: Things have to stay like movie R rated at most. If you’ve seen an R rated movie lately, that covers a lot of ground…

Some area will be provided for extra curricular activities. Feel free to use them. If you’re in the house, feel free to do as you please though.

Now for the fun part, a submissive auction. Not one, but two of them. Auctions will start at 3pm and end when we have gone through everyone or the auctioneer passes out… You can be in both auctions should you choose to be. The winner gets the slave for 24 hours (if that’s 1 RL or SL day that’s between the two avies). Any limits the sub has must be stated before the auction starts. No SL TOS violations (you know what that means) are allowed. As part of terms the sub can agree for the time to start after the party or during it. Starting price for all auctions is L$500. The auctioneer will take a 25% commission from the winner, and the sub will get the rest. While the auction is going on, the auctioneer is the the sub’s dom and must be obeyed..."

A few weeks back, when the SL bloggers party with a dom/sub slave auction theme was thrown, I grimaced, thought about saying something, but decided to just quietly boycott the event (in spite of the all-too-frequent IMs and notices), hoping that would be the end of it. When today’s notice of plans for another one arrived, it’s clear it wasn’t the end of it, so it’s time to say something.

The SL blogger’s group represents a very broad range of views and cultures, and even though we’re officially neutral on business and politics, I don’t think that extends to presenting apparently official group events that promote d/s slavery, even if carried out as roleplay.

There are no shortage of other groups and places in SL for that, but I don’t think the bloggers group - which exists to “showcase blogging in SL, host a yearly convention, and creative a community for SL bloggers to exchange ideas, tips & techniques” (to summarize the inworld group charter) - is one of them.

Surely there are an abundance of creative, fun party themes that don’t require us to check our ethics at the door...

I posted this on the actual event, but I"ll post it here as well:

I won't be attending, and I don't want to be a wet blanket. I'm just as much into having fun as others are, but I have some questions.

With the amount of money that was exchanged at the last "auction," why isn't more of it going to charity? I've done the math, and even giving away half of the auctioneer's cut, there was a pretty penny pocketed after it.

Secondly, is this the direction our blogger meet-ups are going to be heading? I'm all for D/s and the kink, but I think it's exclusionary to a point. We are not, after all, a BDSM-themed group.

Don't get me wrong, Daman and I showed up at the auction and stayed around for a little while last time. I just thought I better throw out my two cents.

Charity auctions I can understand, but if it comes down to it I'd just rather spend time with you all without having to pay to do it, whether or not there's kink involved. If it were for charity it might be a completely different matter.

Have a great time at the auction.

I'm going to be a wet blanket as well. The auction was mostly fun and appeared to be successful and profitable for those who were involved and participated - but it doesn't mean we should make the next event the exact same thing. This kind of event should be once a year or maybe, as an independent event, once every six months.
