SL BDSM - I'm Confused

(This is *not* a personal, I'm just looking for information)

I'm hoping to pick the brains of the assembled SL bloggers here. I've been looking into BDSM in SL and have found some interesting places and items for sale :-) However I'm totally confused by the technicalities. There seems to be a vast range of buzzwords and systems - Lockmeister, Amethyst, RealRestraint, RestrainedLife, etc, etc...

Is there any simple document that explains what all these are, how they relate to each other, what they do etc? For instance I've downloaded the RestrainedLife viewer but have no idea what items I need to buy to go with it, how I make use of it, how other people make use of me using it, etc.

My head hurts...

if you want to IM me in world I can try and explain but for now, to use restrained life you need RL compatible items such as furniture and cuffs collars etc , alot of items will say so in the vendor description and if this is something new for you consider each purchase also try and buy from stores that will in fact upgrade, they may not be using rl in their items now but might be upgrading them in the future at no additional cost to you , be aware though that restrained means just that and if you are attached to being able to access your inventory lol then thats something RL will lock up until unlocked, depends on whether you plan on being the key holder or the key giver though :o)

most bdsm equipment in second life is at least lockmeister compatible. lockmeister is pretty much just a particle system that spits out particle chains so you look chained to the object you are supposed to be strapped to. amethyst is a pretty well known collar manufacturer however i have no experience in their collars so i don't know if they are really worth the buy or not. real restraint is a set of restraints that work in tandem with the restrained life viewer. the restrained life viewer is a third party second life client which allows you to be controlled a bit more than if you were playing on the main viewer. examples of this would be, the inability to teleport away, the inability to remove your restraints, and i think they have some tracking abilities as well.

mostly the equipment you choose is personal preference. alot of people are using the restrained life system now but i personally find it a bit scary, mostly because i am not a full time subby on second life... i just enjoy playing that way sometimes. so it really depends on what you plan to do in the bdsm world.

Thanks for the responses, since I posted that I've learned a lot "the hard way" - three days in the RR Lovers' Prison. Good to be free again :-)
